Wide Open Spaces
02:44
|
|||
Turn up your head skyward
witness the celestial scene.
Billions of light centuries
billions of bright white stars
billions of worlds to be seen.
Open your eyes widely
soak up the darkness of night.
Only the stars shining
splatter the black canvas
alien worlds in your sight
Wide open spaces
Far from the crowds
nature’s night dome
Standing in silence
humbled, in awe
universal home.
Take in a breath deeply
fill up your lungs with night air
Relish the sensation
blood in circulation
refreshed on this night so fair.
Stretch out your arms fully
Shuffle your feet into dance
Rejoice in the motion
Rejoice in the moment
Rejoice in this happenstance.

Treading Water
04:13
|
|||
I've hit the high-water mark.
I've had just about as much as I can take.
I should have known right from the start
that this would turn into a big mistake.
And it's been raining for days now
and the pressure's on for the damn to break!
I've hit the end of the road
There ain't no more highway left to drive.
And I've been cruising for days now,
Just looking for a way to survive.
And with this rain coming down,
I'm just trying to keep myself alive!
I'm up to my neck in an ocean of shit.
No idea what the heck to do about it.
My options for action are running out fast.
I'm treading water for now, but how long can I last?
I'm at the end of my rope.
Oh, I ain't got another thread to spare.
I'm starting to lose hope.
Baby, I'm barely even able to care.
And if this rain keeps falling,
I'm going to sink below the surface in despair!
I'm up to my neck in an ocean of shit.
No idea what the heck to do about it.
My options for action are running out fast.
I'm treading water for now, but how long can I last...?

Pieces
04:14
|
|||
Pieces of the bus
keep traveling through my memory.
Pieces that were us,
our territory.
Flying, the scenery was flying
and the wheels kept a rolling on down the open road.
Friends, kin, strangers, too:
A jumbalaya story.
Each one passing through
so transitory.
Flying, the scenery was flying
and the wheels kept a rolling on down the open road.
I knew that when we got there we’d be going,
accelerator to the floor.
I knew we could not stop the mileage growing
and that none would ever be the same as they were before.
Greetings and goodbyes;
Perpetual illusion.
Slow to realize
there’s no conclusion.
Flying, the scenery was flying
and the wheels kept a rolling on down the open road.
Passing days and passing years, they drift right by you.
Shifting trends and shifting gears…
Traffic woes; it’s stops and goes preoccupy you:
Rocking highs, down and out lows.
But when you come to look upon your last full moon,
just remember all the verses that you added to the tune.
Pieces of the trip
keep flashing past my window.
Work-in-progress script,
there’s more to follow.
Flying, the scenery was flying
and the wheels kept a rolling on down the open road.

It’s never the wrong time to say, “I love you.”
It’s never the wrong time to care.
It’s never the wrong time to say, “I love you,”
and promise you’ll always be there.
You may think she doesn’t want to hear you;
doesn’t want to be too near you;
doesn’t need you around,
But it’s really you she’s thinking of
and she wants to feel your love,
if only you’d make a sound.
It’s never the wrong time...
You may think she’ll never understand you,
never know you, only brand you,
never see who you are,
But it’s the words you want to tell her
that will help her feel secure
knowing you’ll never be far.
It’s never the wrong time...
Sometimes, you’ll think she doesn’t want to talk
and sometimes, you’ll be right.
Sometimes, the tension builds and builds
until it shatters in a fight.
Most times, you only need to open up your heart
to close these gaps.
Communication streaming, flowing
from one lover to another
are the wings we use to hover over all these traps.
It’s never the wrong time to say, “I love you.”
It’s never the wrong time to care.
It’s never the wrong time to say, “I love you,”
and promise you’ll always be there.
I'll always be there for you.

Into Her Song
05:03
|
|||
She lay in bed in the middle of the night,
Her pupils opening wide in the candle light
And in her hand, she held her notebook tight
And she wrote the words of a song.
In the morning, at the setting of the moon,
She took her words and she gave them a tune
And in her heart, she hoped that she would soon
Share with the world her new song,
Share with the world her new song.
Every word she chose with care.
Every sentiment she meant for all to share.
She wrote the melody with love.
Every word came from her heart,
Every careful turn of phrase, a work of art.
She put her soul into her song, into her song, into her song.
The late day sun gave the sky a crimson hue.
It glowed in her eyes and the old woman knew.
She slept that night and a few more centuries through
At peace that she wrote out her song.
Through loss of land and loss of culture,
Through loss of language and written word,
Through segregation, humiliation,
Her song can still be heard.
Through every voice that sang her song,
Through melody and poetry for all to hear,
Through generations and new translations,
She's singing loud and clear.

I Saw Marty
02:59
|
|||
I saw Marty in the rain again last night
He was wandering in a trance-like dance
I saw Marty walking naked in the rain again last night
and this dance is more by habit than by chance.
About a month ago, this unraveling started
That's about the time that you - yes, you - departed
I saw Marty fall apart at the collision of
his heart,
his mind, his soul and his new singular position.
He strummed the angel's harp
When he was swinging on your star
But when you left the heart-strings broke
on his emotional guitar.
I saw Marty and the way he used to look at you
But he was blind to what the rest of us all knew
That you would someday just decide to up and go, but did you know
All the trouble that you'd put old Marty through.
He strummed the angel's harp
When he was swinging on your star
But when you left the heart-strings broke
on his emotional guitar.

The Other Side
04:37
|
|||
Listen up close and I’ll tell you a story
‘Bout this friendly, little place I know.
It’s right downtown in a deep, dark alley;
It’s where my friends and me like to go.
So, if you feel like taking a little sip,
why not join me on a trip... to the Other Side.
Johnny’s the man who will make you feel at home
with a pint o’ beer or something harder still.
Whether you’re up or down and out
It’s the place to go to cure you’re every ill.
So, if you want to take a dip,
why not join me on a trip... to the Other Side.
And when the moon is shining bright,
The darkened alley gets a glimmer.
The glassy eyes that catch the light
will pass you things that glow and shimmer.
Breathe deep, breath deep
breathe deep...the joys of night...
Come in to the warmth of this smoky space.
Kick back for a while; take off your coat and hat.
Watch the TV or maybe shoot stick,
listen to the music or just sit and chat.
‘Cause, if you’re feeling kind o’ hip,
why not join me on a trip... to the Other Side.

Garden Of Love
03:48
|
|||
If you want to plant a garden, you can start it anywhere.
Find a patch of earth that hasn’t had its share of tender care.
Place a tiny rainbow into every morning dewdrop:
Miracles will happen to each one who knows your garden of love.
If you want to grow a garden, you must plant it with your soul.
Offer hours of carefully placing seeds of hope into each hole.
Witness new life sprouting up to sunshine and to showers:
Miracles will happen to each one who know your garden of love.
If you want to see your garden full of life and full of joy.
You must open up the gates to every girl and every boy.
Flowers love the laughter and the wonder of new vision:
Miracles will happen to each one who know your garden of love.
If you want to plant a garden, you can start it anywhere.
Find a patch of eath that hasn't had its share of tender care.
Place a perfect butterfly upon the smallest flower:
Miracles will happen to each one who knows your garden of love.

Trouble
05:09
|
|||
Trouble, trouble,
Trouble called my name last night.
Woke in the morning,
A regular day.
Went to my job
For to earn my pay.
Got to the factory,
But the lights weren't on.
The factory's there,
But the jobs is all gone. Trouble…
Went to the landlord
To pay my rent,
But my pockets is empty,
My money all spent!
I pulled out my bottle
To help me think,
But it's dry as a bone
I ain't got nothing to drink! Trouble…
Needed some loving,
So I looked for my girl.
I found her in bed
With a guy named Earl!
I threw him a left
And he shot me a right,
But we was both arrested
By the end of the fight! Trouble…
Now, the nine-to-five, factory job,
I can live without!
And the landlord's my cousin,
So he can't kick me out,
But I cannot abide a woman
Who screws around on me.
That's why I'm sitting in this prison cell
In misery! Trouble…

Quest
07:34
|
|||
I know
I know where I want to go.
I want to go
beyond my body and liberate my soul
and go where it might go.
Try to imagine
Try to imagine a soul without a cage.
I can imagine
beyond my body, a soul without an age.
Imagine life’s next stage.
Jump into another
See through her eyes
Get to understand
Her way to analyze.
Freedom is the quest
but it comes through knowledge
Education’s best
at the spirit’s college.
Can you see?
Can you see beyond your vision?
Can I see
beyond my vision, material illusion,
see beyond decision?
Do you sense?
Do you sense your inner you?
The essence of you
beyond your organs, what’s left when life is through
reach out and touch, renew.
Jump into another
See through his eyes
Get to understand
His way to analyze.
Freedom is the quest
but it comes through knowledge
Education’s best
at the spirit’s college.
I know
I know where I want to go.
I want to go
beyond my body and liberate my soul
and go where it might go.

Share With Me
02:51
|
|||
Share with me.
Wasn’t that the first thing you learned when you were three?
Share with me. Share with me.
Share because you’re generous and kind.
Share the mischief racing through your mind.
Share the wink you give to a child.
Share the moments you are feeling wild.
Share the dream that shines in your eye.
Share the way you chase a butterfly.
Share the shameful look on your face.
Share your fascination for outer space.
Share the chocolate stain on your shirt.
Share the tear that falls when you are hurt.
Share your thoughts on what’s right or wrong.
Share the way you look at break of dawn.
Share with me.
Wasn’t that the first thing you learned when you were three?
Share with me. Share with me.
Share with me.
Wasn’t that the first thing you learned when you were three?
Share with me and I’ll share with you.

You fear the things that are unclear to you,
But I am here to help you through.
You fear the realms that are beyond your view,
But I am here to help you through.
Now's the time to walk on through the doorway
And see the world that you have never known.
I hope to see you through the night to dawn,
When you become the morning sky!
I hope to see you through the rain and thunder,
When you become the rainbow and fly!
Now's the time to spread your wings and take in all you see
Of the world that you have never known.
It's the day to walk on through the doorway
And see the world that you have never known.
We are but specks of stardust in the cosmos
But I feel like so much more.
We are what we allow ourselves to be
But I feel we could be so much more.
Now's the time to spread your wings and take in all you see
Of the world that you have never known.
It's the day to walk on through the doorway
And see the world that you have never known.
